Sorrento is the main town on the Amalfi Coast to which it gives its name. Homeland of the great Torquato Tasso, has been seen over the centuries numerous definitions: from the land of colors to that of mermaids, also city of gardens. And there can only be truth in each of them. Sorrento is a place where history has left traces in many eras and with different cultures: Greeks, Romans, Normans and Aragonese have all proliferated here leaving each their own imprint taking advantage of the generosity of a luxuriant nature and enjoying some of the most enchanting landscapes of the world. Sorrento has been a favorite destination of foreign tourism since the nineteenth century, especially the Anglo-Saxons with whom there is a very close relationship at the time of the so-called Grand Tour, when the Mediterranean was a place of essential knowledge for the formation of the Mittleuropean aristocracy and, above all, of the literati. This gave rise to a very different atmosphere compared to other tourist resorts in Campania, less inclined to folklore, but certainly more orderly, more welcoming, more civilized. To visit in Sorrento absolutely the numerous and unique churches and ancient buildings, as well as the beaches of course.
