Taxi Castellabate and Cilento, service on call

The village of Castellabate owes its name to the construction of the castle around which it develops, commissioned in 1123 by Abbot Costabile Gentilcore, fourth abbot of the Abbey of Cava de’ Tirreni. Previously, Castellabate and its territory had been the domain of Longobards, first, and Normans, then. To the Lombards is the name of the hill on which the castle was built: once converted to Christianity, they became devotees of San Michele and dedicated the mountain to the Archangel. The Normans, however, had the merit of reclaiming the lands to the Benedictine monks of Cava de’ Tirreni and these allowed the construction of the fortress with which to defend against attacks by the Saracens settled in Agropoli, the basis of their raids. In 1848, from the Cilento and, in particular, from Castellabate the Risorgimento riots started.
The Cilento, together with Vallo di Diano the southern part of the province of Salerno, is a geographical area that develops from the mountains to the sea offering a unique variety of fascinating environments: from the beautiful beaches of the coast to the delightful countries of the interior rich in history and traditions. The Cilento is the land of Myth.
