Ischia or the “Green island”, together
with Capri, Procida and Nisida, is one of the four beautiful islands
of the gulf of Naples. Rich of thermal sources, in fact, it is one
of the more important thermal centers of Europe, Ischia is a very
well patronized all year long from tourists coming from all the
world. It is the greatest island of Campania with a surface of 47
sq. kms and it is separated in 6 Towns Hall.
Historical
outlines
The
first ones to live in Ischia around the VIII sec. b.C. were the
Greek that called the island “Pithekussai”. Arrived the Romans, they
changed the name in “Aenaria” and they valorized the innumerable
thermal sources. After the fall of Rome, Ischia was invaded by the
people coming from the north Europe. In general the island has
followed, always the destiny of the city of Naples. With the Unity
of Italy the exploitation of the thermal waters has developed a
tourism of elite on the whole island.
